Frequently asked questions

Deuterium (D) is a heavy and stable (non-radioactive) isotope of hydrogen. Deuterium has a neutron in its nucleus which makes it denser than regular hydrogen by mass (weight and size). Deuterium is a naturally occurring element and can be found in food, water, air, etc. at a ratio of about 155ppm (parts per million).

In humans, as we reach biological maturity, excess amounts of environmental deuterium can make us age faster, and can contribute to diseases like cancer, obesity and diabetes. Excess deuterium can be disruptive to our energy-producing mitochondria and all three-dimensional structures in the body.

Cellular energy production happens in the mitochondria – known as the powerhouses of the cell. Our bodies contain trillions of mitochondria with a high concentration in the brain, heart, muscles, liver and kidneys. Within the mitochondria, energy is produced by the activity of spinning heads called nano-motors.  The fuel for these (nano-motors) is hydrogen.

When mitochondria use deuterium instead of hydrogen as fuel, the activity of the nano-motors is critically reduced, ultimately lowering both- energy production and redox potential. A lowering of your redox potential means a huge increase in your risks for chronic diseases.

Normally, the main factors affecting your body’s ability to deplete deuterium are – age, excessive weight, illness and lack of quality sleep. Based on researches and data analysis it is recommended not to exceed 130 ppm.

It’s important to establish your baseline deuterium level to understand what your level is before you get started. H2 for You offers a proprietary easy-to-use Saliva Deuterium Test Kit, a powerful marker that measures the deuterium level in your body. Saliva collection is evaluated by a highprecision Australian licensed testing lab that will reveal the level of deuterium in your body in an unprecedented rapid turn-around time of just 5-10 days.

A follow-up test is equally important and the frequency varies from 45-90 days, depending on your health condition, goals, and major health changes. Repeating the test will show you how effectively you depleted deuterium from your body simply by integrating the Source Energetix drink into your program, and if an additional nutrition or other lifestyle adjustment is necessary.

Research shows that decreasing the level of deuterium in the tissues and organs is a natural biological process. However, the body’s ability to deplete deuterium decreases as we get older, sicker and get less exercise or sunlight. This natural system is the target of the deuterium depleting procedure.

By changing the deuterium level of drinking water below the natural level, the deuterium content in the body can be kept low even if the said natural cell process is faulty. By proper choice and continuous consumption, deuterium depletion in the organism can be maintained for long periods.

Our bodies are 60% water (H2O), therefore drinking deuterium depleted water becomes the most efficient method to lower deuterium. By consuming drinking water with lower than natural deuterium concentration, deuterium content in our organism will be decreased because the organism’s normal water content will mix with the deuterium-depleted water.

It is possible to cover the daily water intake (1 – 2 liters a day for most adults) with deuterium-depleted water, which can be consumed as such but can also be flavored or used for cooking or making tea or coffee. It is important that intake of fluid with normal deuterium level (tap water, mineral waters, soft drinks, fruit juices, milk) should be minimized.

That is totally dependent on your health goals and the protocol your healthcare specialist has prescribed for you. We will be more than happy to talk to you about the specifics of your depletion therapy once we evaluate your health history and goals. We found through research over the years that a 90-day protocol is advised to get meaningful results.

Normal drinking water ranges from about 140 to 151 ppm depending on where you live. In Australia the range is more 150 to 155 ppm. This is true no matter if that water is from a river, lake, pond, or mountain steam. It’s also true for alkaline water, Kangen water, and the many other waters used to support health and wellness. To find the deuterium content of the water you drink we have provided the Dee-Water Test Kit.

However, unlike other waters, only deuterium depleted drinking water can be used to effectively deplete deuterium from the body.  We sell Qlarivia® DDW which has a deuterium content of 25 ppm. This can be diluted (to a specific deuterium concentration using good quality spring water) and drunk daily over a particular time period.

The process of drinking a particular concentration of deuterium depleted water daily over differing time periods is referred to as to a depleted deuterium protocol.

There has never been a recorded adverse reaction attributed to drinking deuterium depleted water for any of the thousands of people who have used it.

For optimal mitochondrial functioning, you would want to focus on eating low-deuterium foods. Our approach is to introduce a low-carb high-fat diet to your everyday food choices. It is an easy and safe way to deplete deuterium. The reason ‘fat burning’ depletes deuterium is because for every kilogram of fat you burn, your body creates 1.1 liters of metabolic water (using hydrogen from the fat, plus oxygen). During beta-oxidation (fat burning), metabolic water is created inside your cells and is naturally deuterium depleted. Ideally, in order to maintain optimal mitochondrial functioning, you would strive to reach a deuterium-depleted lifestyle. Gradually, introduce a low-carb high-fat diet and consult with our representatives for other lifestyle recommendations that may help you attain greater results.

The concentration of deuterium in foods varies quite significantly. Foods containing sugar and carbs are generally very high in deuterium, while green plants, vegetables, nuts, seeds, healthy fats, fish, eggs, kefir, cheese, grass-fed animal meat, etc., are deuterium depleted because of their low sugar and high-fat content.

Deuterium-depleted water is produced by an energy-demanding technology based on differences in the physiochemical properties of normal water (H2O) and heavy water (D2O). Due to a boiling point difference of merely 1.5°C, the concentration of heavy water (with higher boiling point) is lower in the vapor phase and this fact is utilized for producing deuterium-depleted water. By repeating evaporation several times in so-called distillation columns, the deuterium content of water can be reduced to any level.

By means of home distillers or freezing and thawing not more than 1 ppm decrease can be achieved by a single time, or 2 – 3 ppm by two times, and this is insignificantly little change in the deuterium concentration of water. Substantial decrease of deuterium content in water can be achieved only by an industrial scale technology, fractional distillation. Our product contains 25 ppm  deuterium compared to our natural waters in Australia which contain between 150 ppm and 155 ppm.

The deuterium content of living organisms is determined primarily by the deuterium level of oceanic water and of precipitation arriving at the ground. Deuterium level in precipitation decreases from the Equator to the North and South Pole, from the oceans into the continents, and in proportion with increasing elevation. In our climatic zone, deuterium content of the surface waters is 150 – 155 ppm with little variability. The human body consists mostly of water, but the proportion of water decreases with age.

Considering that about 60% of our body is water, and that organic compounds also contain deuterium, the concentration of deuterium in the human organism is several-fold higher than the normal level of other physiologically important elements such as calcium, potassium or magnesium.
